Check USDT Blacklist Status on Tron Programmatically

Checking one Tron address by hand is easy; checking ten thousand on every deposit is where teams get stuck on TronGrid rate limits and per-chain integrations. Here is the direct contract read, and the API call that covers it alongside every other freezeable contract.

Reading the status directly

Tron exposes the same contract read as any TRC-20 call: getBlackListStatus on TR7NHqjeKQxGTCi8q8ZY4pL8otSzgjLj6t returns a bool per address. TronGrid rate-limits anonymous calls, so a batch check needs an API key or a node of your own.

Node.js (TronWeb)

const { TronWeb } = require("tronweb");
const tronWeb = new TronWeb({ fullHost: "https://api.trongrid.io" });

const contract = await tronWeb.contract().at("TR7NHqjeKQxGTCi8q8ZY4pL8otSzgjLj6t");
const isFlagged = await contract.getBlackListStatus("TWalletAddressToCheck").call();
console.log(isFlagged); // true or false

One call instead of one integration per chain

The direct read above covers this contract only, and it returns a boolean, not the sanctions exposure or counterparty history that decides whether an address is about to be frozen. FreezeRadar's API returns all of it for every freezeable contract we track, including the 2,347 freeze events recorded on this one.

FAQ

Who can freeze USDT on Tron?

Tether controls the TRC-20 USDT contract directly. A multisig owned by Tether calls addBlackList on an address, and from that block on the address can neither send nor receive USDT, the tokens stay visible in the wallet but every transfer reverts.

What exactly gets frozen: the wallet or the balance?

The block is on the wallet address itself, so it covers every TRC-20 USDT the address holds now and anything anyone sends it later. It does not touch TRX or any other TRC-20 token in the same wallet.

Can a freeze on Tron be reversed?

Only Tether can call removeBlackList, and it does, a meaningful share of Tron blacklistings are later reversed, typically when law enforcement clears the address or the exchange that reported it withdraws the report. There is no on-chain appeal: the path runs through Tether support and, in practice, through whichever exchange or law-enforcement agency triggered the report. FreezeRadar has recorded 351 releases against 2,347 freezes on this contract.
