Peel Chain

A sequence of outbound transfers where each transfer sends progressively less than the one before, repeated several times in a row — a classic layering pattern, though benign treasury or payroll behavior can look similar.

Why it matters

Repeatedly peeling off smaller amounts while moving the remainder onward is a well-documented obfuscation technique in traditional and crypto money laundering alike.

How we detect it

Look for a run of consecutive outbound transfers with a strictly decreasing amount sequence.
